Wicked Weddings: Jewelry Ideas for a Spooky Halloween Wedding

Alright boys and ghouls, it’s that time of year again: pumpkins, ghosts, and my three hopped-up-on-candy goblins clamoring for my attention. Halloween is nearly upon us! I cannot help myself. This is my second favorite time of year (right after Christmas). Autumn has always been my favorite season and to have one of my favorite holidays fall (pun intended) smack dab in the middle? Well, it’s a match made in my own private little heaven. The only thing I don’t love about this season is pumpkin spice anything.

I got married in mid-August, with the stunning vibrancy of summer’s lush foliage creating the perfect backdrop for our nuptials. There were three weddings that year in my husband’s family (ours included), all within six weeks of each other. Due to scheduling conflicts with all those jubilant celebrations, we didn’t have the fall wedding I had originally desired.  I wanted rich fall colors, pumpkins, leaves, tree branches, and all things fall. But since it didn’t work out that way, I am going to live vicariously through those of you who are having a fall or wedding. As a side note, I loved my wedding and given the choice, I wouldn’t change a thing about it…even the season.

For what my opinion is worth, I think that two things set the spooky fall vibe better than anything: candelabras and jewelry. It’s easily to make a case for candles in a fall or Halloween wedding. Fewer candles=darker=creepier. Additionally, you can opt for dark candelabras and dark candles. Or, if you really want to go spooky, you can buy taper candles that drip “blood” as they melt.

But, in all honesty, the most important thing about any wedding is the bride. And the bride sets the tone of any wedding. A great way for a blushing bride to set the spooky tone for a Halloween wedding is with Gothic inspired jewelry. Goth fashion generally dictates black or dark colors, Victorian themes in dress and jewelry, religious motifs (especially in jewelry), lace, velvet, etc. I like to think of it as dark romance. And a dark romance is just the ticket for an All Hallow’s Eve jumping of the broom (“jumping the broom” is an old marriage custom, practiced largely by African-Americans, dating back to the Civil War era).

In choosing your wedding jewelry, take a note from the Goth brides: incorporate some lace into your wedding jewelry. The Venezia Lace Wedding Ring is paradoxically refine and attention-grabbing. The seven-millimeter-wide platinum wedding band has a delicate lace pattern carved into it and set against a black antiqued background. To add a little sparkle to the romance, 1.15 carats of round brilliant-cut diamonds run in two bands at the outer edges of the ring. This ring is the epitome of Halloween wedding jewelry style: Black? Check. Lace? Check. Platinum? Check.

For the bride who wants a slightly more understated dark side, give the Lace Vine Wedding Ring a look. I recommend this ring not because of the lacy nature of this ring (which it certainly has), but because of the floral and leaf design. If you look into Gothic jewelry, you will find that an extremely common decorative theme is flowers, specifically roses, usually red (although I find dark plum to be my favorite color rose). This ring captures that floral romance and proudly proclaims it: in platinum, with a quarter-carat of round brilliant-cut diamonds.

For the goth groom, check out the Blackbird Wedding Band. The Blackbird is a whopping 11 millimeters wide, making this the perfect ring for the guy who wants it to stand out. And stand out it will. Not too many people are walking around with a gorgeous brushed titanium wedding ring with a carved black titanium inlay in the raised center of the ring.

The dark romance of a Halloween wedding should be captured down to the very last detail. With the help of Timeless Wedding Bands, the bride can remember her spooky wedding each time she gazes down at her finger.

Fiendishly yours,

Rebecca
