Open Hearts, Open Work Wedding Bands

When you think about a wedding band, one of two images probably comes to mind: a plain gold band (which is stunning in its timeless simplicity) or a diamond-crusted dazzler (which is beautiful, with its sparkle and fire). But you have another option: an open-work wedding band. Now, I will say, because I love diamonds and will never pass up an opportunity to advocate for them, that you can of course get an open-work wedding ring with diamonds.

If an open-work wedding band sounds like your cup of nuptial tea, you have myriad options available to you. It’s not enough to decisively declare, “I want an open-work band!” You’ll need to consider other options: symbolism, stones or no stones, width, contemporary…the list goes on and on. To help you sift through the sea of choices, I compiled a selection of open-work wedding rings.

For me, the most important facet (clever jewelry pun, right?) of an open-work ring is the feeling it evokes. I think an open-work wedding band represents an open heart and an open mind. In any marriage, you’re going to need both. Having that reminder on your finger at all times is a great way to keep your spouse at the forefront of your mind.

                                                                   Open Brick Wedding Band

Open work bands also seem to have no real defined beginning and end, because the eye wants to fill in the negative spaces. This represents the eternal nature of love. And nothing embodies an open heart filled with eternal love like a Celtic knot. Timeless Wedding Bands has a beautifully curated collection of Celtic knot wedding bands. To dive deeper into the meaning of different Celtic knots, check out this blog. Of the Celtic knot bands Timeless offers, I like the Galway Wedding Band best. This medium-sized knot strikes the perfect balance. It’s not so small that you won’t be able to easily discern the beautiful undulating knot pattern. And it’s not so big that it looks awkward or clumsy, especially on the delicate finger of a lady. Galway comes in 10, 14, and 18 karat white, yellow, and rose gold (rose available in 14k and 18k only). Although this ring is unisex, it is available in two widths, 7mm and 8mm.

                                                                     Triple Beam Wedding Band

If a Celtic knot motif doesn’t quite inspire love in your heart, you have other options. Throughout the years, the contemporary style has grown on me. I used to find it too stark and strong. However, that honesty in shape and design has worked its way into my heart. If I were to choose a contemporary open-work wedding ring, it would be a toss-up between the Double Stud Wedding Band and the Open Brick Wedding Band. The Double Stud features two slim bands stacked on top of each other (with space between them). The striking design boasts a rounded square shape with small bars in the corners, holding the ring together. I’ll be honest with you, I think the Double Stud is better suited to women. However, for men (and for women who prefer a stronger statement from their jewelry), Timeless also has a Triple Beam Wedding Band. The Triple Beam uses the same basic shapes, but has three stacked bands. Additionally, Triple Beam is available in multiple color combinations (as compared to Double Stud’s total white gold statement).

                                                             Suzette Wedding Ring

Another treat for the men is the Open Brick Wedding Band. This two-tone men’s wedding ring has presence. It is imposing, strong, and almost logical seeming. It looks just like the picture that’s in your mind right now. It looks like brick work, but where there would be grout, the ring is open. I know this description may feel almost clinical, but when you see this ring, you will understand why. Honestly, sometimes you need to be the strong, logical rock in your marriage. Sometimes you’re carrying the whole thing on your back. And when that happens, what a comfort it would be to look down at your ring finger and know that that’s okay.

So, now, ladies…it’s the moment you’ve been waiting for. The diamonds. There are some incredible open-work wedding bands with diamonds. Many of Timeless’s open-work diamond bands are inspired by antique and vintage styles, which we all know are my favorite styles. One of my favorites is the Suzette Wedding Ring. Suzette features .79 carats of round brilliant cut diamonds, set in a floral inspired setting. The delicate flowing lines of this ring are finished with a milgrain, adding to the old-school charm of this wedding ring. Suzette is available in platinum, and 10k, 14k, and 18k white, yellow, and rose gold (rose is available in 14k and 18k only).

So many options are available to you. Narrowing your focus to open-work will reduce your pool of candidates, but you’ll still have decisions to make. Hopefully, I’ve given you some valuable things to think about. With an open heart,

Rebecca
