Getting Comfortable with Comfort Fit Wedding Band Part Two

When you and your love are shopping for wedding bands, the list of options is endless: yellow gold, platinum, rose gold, two-tone, 2mm, 8mm, height, width, thickness…it goes on and on. The beautiful part is that you can buy a ring that truly represents your unique personality. But that flexibility doesn’t come without its drawbacks: if you’re unfamiliar with the terminology, it can feel a lot like jumping into the deep end of the pool when you can’t swim.

Choosing The Right Dimensions For Your Comfort Fit Ring

When you and your love are shopping for wedding bands, the list of options is endless: yellow gold, platinum, rose gold, two-tone, 2mm, 8mm, height, width, thickness…it goes on and on. The beautiful part is that you can buy a ring that truly represents your unique personality. But that flexibility doesn’t come without its drawbacks: if you’re unfamiliar with the terminology, it can feel a lot like jumping into the deep end of the pool when you can’t swim. When it comes to Comfort Fit wedding bands, one of the most commonly confused ideas is the difference between the width and the thickness of the ring. The width is exactly what it sounds like: it is the width of the band. Using a classic plain wedding band as an example, imagine it on your hand. The width measures the ring’s dimension in the “knuckle to knuckle” direction. Most wedding bands will be anywhere from 2mm wide to 8mm wide.

Generally speaking, men choose wedding bands that are on the wider side, usually starting in the 4 to 5mm width. Ladies usually choose a narrower ring because they are wearing their wedding band in conjunction with their engagement ring. The thickness is especially important when discussing a Comfort Fit ring. The thickness is also sometimes referred to as the height of the ring. If you were to take a slice out of the ring, the thickness/height would be the distance (in millimeters) from the bottom of the band (the part that is in contact with your finger) to the top (the part of the ring that the world sees). The thickness of the ring will let you know if you are buying a regular Comfort Fit ring or a luxury Heavy Comfort Fit (for more information about the Heavy Comfort Fit and other Comfort Fit variations, check out Part One of Getting Comfortable with Comfort Fit). We offer three levels of thickness in our Classic wedding bands. Our standard is a hefty 1.45 mm in thickness.

For those who want a little more weight on their hand, we have our Premium line. Rings in our Premium line are 1.75mm in thickness. Our Prestige line is our most luxurious and bands in that line are a full 2mm in thickness. Don’t be tempted to think, “what difference could a half millimeter really make?” The answer is, a lot. The first difference you’ll notice is the price. The thicker the band, the more gold (or other metal) it takes to make that ring. Understandably, this increases the cost. Although price is a factor in wedding band selection, the bigger issue with Comfort Fit thickness is lifestyle. Consider your future spouse’s lifestyle when choosing a Comfort Fit ring. A 5mm wide regular thickness band could be completely appropriate for a computer engineer working in an office. But if he is a building contractor (or your computer engineer is a weekend warrior), that ring probably isn’t the best choice. For the groom who wants to work with his hands but still wear his wedding ring, a wider band (7 or 8mm) from our Premium or Prestige lines is a far more logical choice. In addition to being able to better withstand the constant movement and rough environments of someone who spends his days creating with his hands, a thicker band is far less likely to become misshapen or damaged while being worn.

Comfort Fit is the ideal choice for all people because it’s easier than a Standard Fit ring to wear all day every day, hence the name. That’s why it’s the only fit Timeless Wedding Bands sells. But for certain groups, it’s especially important. For example, people who have arthritis in their hands or have lingering effects from a previous finger injury often have a hard time with Standard Fit rings. They don’t slide well over swollen or enlarged knuckles. But Comfort Fit wedding bands glides over them with greater ease.

There are a lot of factors that go into choosing your or your love’s wedding band. But of all your options, make sure you make Comfort Fit a priority. With a Comfort Fit band, the comfort of wearing your wedding ring will last as long as your love.
