5 Things to Know About Wedding Planning

5 Things to Know About Wedding Planning

Every little girl marvels at the thought of her wedding day. She dreams of flawless decor, flourishing flowers, delectable food, and the ideal perfect day. What most girls do not dream of is the planning that goes into making her wedding spectacular. There is a plethora of questions to answer like, “How many people are on the guest list?” and “Is this the best venue?”

When it comes to wedding planning, the pressure can come from places you would least expect. Today, we will share with you five things to know about wedding planning that will reduce your worries and help create a smooth process for planning the day of your dreams.

1. Set your own pace

The minute you become engaged people won’t hesitate to ask, “When is the wedding?” One thing to remember is that you can’t please everyone. Whether you want to enjoy your engagement for a year or plan your wedding in three months, it’s your decision. Don’t let anyone tell you there is a way it must be done. Go at the pace that works for you and your future spouse! Based on your personality, the type of wedding you want, and ultimately, how long you want to be engaged will guide your timeline. You and your loved one get to decide how things will go. Do remember, however, that if you have specific details you MUST have (location, band, or photographer) you may have to plan further ahead.

2. The size of your guest list matters

Compiling a guest list is one of the most difficult tasks of wedding planning. You may be surprised by how certain family members have very strong opinions on who should make the cut. To avoid frustration, have a clear vision of how large or small of a wedding you would like to have. After all, the size will affect other aspects of your planning including your budget and venue.

If you’re a little more budget conscious, perhaps consider a more intimate wedding. Inviting strictly close family and friends will give you a better opportunity to stretch your budget on other details that matter to you like exquisite food or decorative decor. The more people you invite, the pricier it can get. A smaller guest list will allow you to have your dream wedding on an affordable budget. Remember, it is your day!

3. Ask for help

The mindset that “If you want to get something done right you have to do it yourself,” is not the best outlook when it comes to planning a wedding. Getting all the details just how you want them can often take a village. While you may have a clear vision in mind of how you want your wedding day to look, it doesn’t mean you have to do it alone.

The truth is you can’t, or more importantly, shouldn’t, do it all yourself. Asking family, bridesmaids, groomsmen, and other close friends for help doesn’t make you needy. Many times these people will surprise you and be eager to jump in wherever help is needed! Delegating tasks will relieve your stress and free up time to spend with loved ones during this exciting time in your life. You can still be the visionary, but have more fun doing it!

4. The wedding is just the beginning

“Your wedding day is just a day” is a phrase that every person planning a wedding can easily roll their eyes at, but it’s important to remember. The point of your wedding day isn’t the decor, the flowers, or the food. It is about you and your future spouse making a commitment to spend your lives together. While you will do everything you can to make the day perfect, it’s likely that some parts won’t go as planned, and that is okay! After all, if it’s pouring rain, all that matters is that there’s you, your partner, a marriage certificate, and someone to marry you. Even if a few things go wrong, it will be a beautiful day you will cherish forever. Embrace the imperfections and focus on the love that you share and the celebration of your future! This is the beginning of a new life for you and your partner, embrace it and enjoy it to the fullest!

5. It is your day

You will be asked many questions when you delve into planning your wedding. People will give valuable (sometimes unsolicited) advice, but don’t let them guide you into choosing something you don’t want. As a couple, you get to choose what you like, what you want, and what is best in your eyes. One of the greatest parts of creating your wedding day is that you get to pick all of the fun little details that make it your unique day.

If you are having a hard time making some of the decisions, feel free to ask for advice, but be sure to explore your options! Don’t stress about pleasing everyone – do what makes you feel happy! It’s all about you, so feel confident and enjoy planning your vision of the perfect day. Don’t be afraid to speak up if someone is overstepping the boundaries or causing you stress. Ultimately, you and your partner get to have the final say and should get to enjoy the process just as much as the big day!
